Quick Answer

Quebec City has the highest average credit score of Canada's most populous cities, at 723, according to Borrowell's 2026 data. Montreal is second at 716, followed by Markham (714), Vancouver (704) and Laval (704). Canada's national average credit score is 679. At the other end of the study, Edmonton has the lowest average of the 20 cities measured, at 646.

This ranking uses Borrowell's 2026 data on average credit scores in Canada's 20 most populous cities, drawn from more than 4 million Borrowell members. Borrowell is a Canadian credit app that gives members their Equifax credit score. Canadian credit scores run from 300 to 900: 660 to 724 counts as good, 725 to 759 as very good, and 760 and above as excellent. Every city in this top 10 sits in the good band — even first-placed Quebec City, at 723, falls two points short of very good. Quebec is the story of the ranking: its cities take four of the top 10 spots, while Ontario takes five and British Columbia one.

Why cities, not provinces

Canada's credit bureaus do not publish official average credit scores by province. Provincial figures found online are estimates; Loans Canada, for example, averages Borrowell's city figures and puts Quebec first at about 707. Because the city figures come directly from Borrowell's member data, this ranking uses cities. The averages describe Borrowell members in each city, not every resident.

Cities are ranked by average credit score in Borrowell's 2026 data on Canada's 20 most populous cities, based on more than 4 million Borrowell members. Scores are on Canada's 300–900 scale and describe Borrowell members in each city rather than every resident; Borrowell does not publish how many members it counted in each city. Vancouver and Laval are tied at 704 and share fourth place. Canada's credit bureaus do not publish official provincial averages, which is why this ranking uses Borrowell's city-level data instead. Credit score bands (good 660–724, very good 725–759, excellent 760–900) are Equifax Canada's. The national average of 679 is Borrowell's 2026 figure, up from 667 in 2021.

Figures marked as estimates are based on publicly available information and may vary from other published sources.
