The 20 Tallest Buildings in the World in 2026
Completed buildings ranked by official height to architectural top, from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), and the Saudi tower set to overtake Burj Khalifa.

Quick Answer
The tallest building in the world is Burj Khalifa in Dubai, at 828 metres, a title it has held since 2010. Second is Menara Merdeka Maybank (Merdeka 118) in Kuala Lumpur at 678.9 metres, and third is Shanghai Tower at 632 metres. Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, under construction and planned at over 1,000 metres, is set to overtake Burj Khalifa, with its developer targeting completion in late 2028.
This ranking uses the official heights of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the body whose height standards are used to decide the world's tallest buildings. Heights are measured to the architectural top, which includes spires that are part of the design but not antennas or flagpoles. Only completed buildings are ranked. Two pairs of buildings share the same height, so the top 20 places include 21 buildings.
The tower set to beat Burj Khalifa
Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia is listed by CTBUH as under construction, with a planned height of "1,000+ m" and expected completion in 2028. Its developer, Jeddah Economic Company (JEC), describes it as over 1,000 metres tall. JEC's chief executive said in September 2026 that the tower had reached its 116th floor and was targeting construction completion in late 2028. The exact final height has not been officially published, and sources differ on the floor count: CTBUH lists 167 floors above ground, while JEC states 157 floors.

What the numbers tell us
Burj Khalifa is 149.1 metres taller than any other completed building. If Jeddah Tower is completed as planned, it would be the first building over 1,000 metres. Other towers under construction could also enter the top 10 by 2030, including Burj Azizi in Dubai, listed by CTBUH at 725 metres with expected completion in 2030, which would rank 2nd today.

Buildings are ranked by CTBUH height to architectural top, which includes spires but not antennas, signs or flagpoles. Only buildings CTBUH lists as completed are ranked; Jeddah Tower and other buildings under construction are not. Where two buildings have the same height, they share a rank, so the top 20 places include 21 buildings. Locations follow CTBUH's listings. Height differences and percentages are calculated by Viszlyn from the CTBUH figures. Jeddah Tower's final height has not been officially published: CTBUH lists it as "1,000+ m" and JEC as over 1,000 metres; some reports give about 1,008 metres, which Viszlyn has not been able to confirm from an official source. CTBUH counts 167 floors above ground, while JEC states 157 floors.
